It can be so difficult to nail a person down. What they "do" seems to be the most popular way. So I am creating a space to show my projects, interests and creations. Enjoy folks!

blue bunny and the grocery list

blue bunny
not sure why, but i am attracted to using gold all of a sudden.  when i was in NY i painted in primary colors and rectangles.  now in LA, i am more interested in circles, new colors and images.  it makes me happy to find out that i am developing new art that surprises me.

the man in the sky

sometimes i find an image that feels right and i want to explore.  a skeleton man in the sky selecting, helping and moving things along feels interesting to me right now.  here the king skeleton is selecting a soldier (a sniper fires from the black and white corner window, the victim is unaware).  the skeletons taking the place of angels and unseen powers.  i used marker, acrylic paint, indian ink and pen on paper.

the magic death arrow

i have always been drawn to the indian wars of the old west. i drew a series of people passing away in that world.  a kind of morbid coloring book.  this picture is me revisiting a fascinating topic.  the death god hands off a fatal arrow to an embattled comanche indian. marker, color pencil, acrylic paint, pen, indian ink, and soft pastels on paper.

ship and storm

after
a starless night.  a little ship facing rough seas.  the crew tucked inside the cabin, hoping it will pass.  acrylic paint, indian ink, ball point ben, chalk on cardboard.

the woods is burnin!

i like this one. reminds me of the wildfires.  i use pieces of cardboard instead of a brush sometimes on canvas.  the result is a a mix of colors and textures that i find beautiful and unpredictable. i sometimes would save these pieces and tape them to my wall as little reminders of the beauty in randomness. it is only recently that i decided to look at the colors and create an illustration within them. "the woods is burnin!": acrylic paint on cardboard, indian ink, pen.

illustration: lost comrade

lost comrade
three soldiers look over a fallen friend.  another stands guard.  acrylic and pent on paper.  the colors: gray, black, white and "oasis green", indian ink and a ball point pen were also used.  it reminds me of a scene from a brecht play.

illustration based on blotches

bird.

again, turning a piece of paper that i would normally throw away into a picture based on the random blotches of paint (my own ink blotch analysis). the piece of greeting card paper was initially used as a temporary palette - why toss it?

birds.

gold bears.
ramming speed.
the benefit of dead animals.
one of my favorite places to go is the museum of natural history.  something classic, untouchable and magical about these places.

half way through to the end in 23 seconds

creating a painting a step at a time.  i wish the idea would have came to me when i had a blank canvas but this will do for the first go.  i learned a lot by making this one, but it has it's own hypnotic merits.  enjoy friends!  click on the link below:

lightening storm

the storm.

being ok with chaos may be some of the best advice i ever got. painting over something that looks good but doesn't really work, not being afraid to ruin something.  the chaos allows me to explore new places i never went before.  the thing is, i like this but i probably paint over it if i am left alone with it long enough.  trying to find something more, a new option.  it feels to soon to be done.

flowers on snow

i like the challenge of finding what to make out of found scraps.  turning some blotches into a picture.  looking at everything being valid. not believing that there are mistakes while creating but everything is a gift or a guide to the next step.

korean war sketches

surrender

hiding

hiya, i saw these black and white photos of the korean war and it inspired to create these pictures.  i used pen, gesso, then indian ink and more pen, then white, blue, red, black acrylic.  throw some pastel orange and yellow in there, smear it with a paper towel all on the back of an envelope from the government. suiting. i think.
